Generalized Anxiety Disorder

April 14, 2022 By Mental Health Guru

When you worry about common occurrences and uncontrollable situations all the time, you might be suffering from a generalized anxiety disorder. It is a lot different from normal anxiety where you can feel worried about not having your scholarship yet. But in generalized anxiety disorder, you are worried all the time even about the things that require no attention at all. Sometimes, the person with GAD doesn’t even know what they are worried about.

GAD doesn’t only disturb your life, but it makes you prone to more issues and you become unable to catch new opportunities as well.

Symptoms

Some common symptoms can be found in people suffering from GAD. However, it is not necessary to have all the symptoms, but these are some of the most common ones:

  • Difficulty handling situation
  • Constantly worrying and being anxious about small things.
  • Perceiving things and situations as threatening when they are not.
  • Inability to let go of the worry.
  • Inability to relax and calm down most of the time.
  • Being restless most of the time.
  • Difficulty concentrating.
  • Overthinking about everything.

You may also experience physical symptoms like:

  • Sleeping Issues
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Nervousness
  • Trembling
  • Muscle tension
  • Fatigue

If you feel that you are suffering from most of these symptoms, it is time to do something about it.

What causes GAD?

People suffering from GAD often have no idea about the reason for this situation. They get stuck in their anxiety so much that they can hardly think about what is causing it and how to remove it from the base. So, if you want awareness, here are some of the possible causes of GAD:

  • Genetics
  • Personality Disorder
  • Change in brain chemistry
  • Past Experience
  • Trauma

Tips to Manage GAD

When you have GAD, you don’t think straight and thus you might be losing many big things in your life too. To avoid such mishaps and to lead a healthy life, you must take a step right away and manage your anxiety. Here are some of the tips to help you:

Exercise

Just a little bit of exercise every day can help your mind think good things and manage everything. You will realize how much exercise keeps you fresh and active, and not only that, it also helps you keep calm in bad situations.

Healthy Eating

Believe it or not, healthy or unhealthy food has too much to do with the way you deal with the things around you. If all that you eat is junk, it will keep you hyperactive and anxious. Also, drug addiction has a direct relation to anxiety so avoiding it should also be one of the first important steps.

Professional Help

Experts advise you to seek professional help if you are in a situation where you don’t think you can control anything. There are great therapies and treatment plans that your therapist, psychiatrist or counselor can select for you depending on the intensity of your situation. So, if you or anyone close to you is experiencing such issues, seek professional help immediately.
